Coach Ian – Week in Review 02/21/2021:
What I’m Listening To:
Katie Haun is a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm. She previously was a federal prosecutor and led investigations on the corrupt agents in the Silk Road task force who were undercovers secretly extorting the Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht. She also worked on gang related cases before changing careers to serve as a board member at Coinbase. During the podcast, they talk about everything from crypto to NFTs to gangs and to the startup scene.
Run Streak and Running Goals:
Since the start of the year, I’ve started off a Run Streak. I’ve run 5K/day every day, except for Saturday’s which are for my long distance runs. While a lot is up in the air, my current timeline is as follows:
Progress: As of 2/21/21, I’ve now run 210 miles for the year, while maintaining my 52-day run streak.
Boxing Matches This Week:
Oscar Valdez KO10 over Miguel Berchelt
What a knockout. Oscar started the fight a little wild throwing looping overhands and not finding the mark. Berchelt seemed content walking him down, presumably to take over in the later rounds. Everything changed when Oscar Valdez’s signature left hook dropped Berchalt in round 4, with a looping shot on Berchelt’s temple. I don’t think Berchelt ever fully recovered from that shot and was on wobbly legs. Oscar Valdez settled into his game, starting to use lateral movement and switching southpaw and orthodox to avoid Berchelt’s pressure. He dropped him again with an uppercut, while shifting positions in round 8.
In the 10th, in a moment of desperation, Berchelt rushed forward with his hands down (and right hand by his hip) while Oscar Valdez landed this knockout-of-the-year candidate:
Gabriel Flores KO6 Jayson Velez
Congrats to Gabriel Flores for his KO victory over the veteran Jayson Velez. Tonight was a night where shots to the temple changed the outcome of the fight. Both Velez and Berchelt showed heart, but could never regain their footing after those equilibrium-rattling left hooks.
