Audiobooks While Running
Audiobooks or music when you run?
Once upon a time, I used to blast my music and try to hype myself up to run as fast as possible. These days, I’m strategic in my training and avoiding burnout. Most of my distance runs are in Zone 3 or under 150bpm (Maffetone Method). But rather than wearing a heart rate monitor, I use simple measures such as:
• Can I pay attention to my audiobook? ?
• Can I hold a conversation? ?
• Can I 100% nasal breathe while running? ??
Chances are I’m not training in the “black hole” if I can answer yes to any of those. I keep my heart rate down when doing anything over 10 miles, unless it’s race day. Speed work is done separately. ⚡️
Another benefit – I get through a lot of books! Pre-pandemic I was getting through a book every week, just through rush hour traffic and my runs. Swipe ➡️➡️ for some of my favorites! ??
