Run Streak and Running Goals:
Progress: As of 10/31/21, I’ve now run 1,288 miles for the year, while maintaining my 304-day run streak.
Share of the Week:
I wrote about many of the blood tests that I order and my results here. The article by Levels Health presents similar findings, but also shows 6 very well-respected doctors recommendations for each type of blood test. Great read!
Boxing Tutorial of the Week: What to Do When a Fighter Leans on You
Boxing Highlight of the Week: Jose Zepeda vs Josue Vargas (Coach Mustafas Boxing)
Coach Mustafa has an interesting take on why to avoid throwing the slip-2 over the jab. While it does work, it almost becomes a race to land the two after you’ve slipped. Mustafas take is that when someone throws a short right hand behind it, they will most likely beat you to the punch.
You have to be smart and have a feel for when to use each counter. Most of the time you see fighters throwing a jab by itself, and being countered with the right hand. Floyd was a master at the pull-counter. But even the great Floyd Mayweather was caught with a good shot by Marcos Maidana, when trying to counter with his right hand.
There’s a time and place for everything.
The Oura 3: The New Oura Ring is Coming Out in November
I’m a big fan of the Oura Ring and use it to track my sleep and recovery. I’m stoked to try out the new model, which features better workout data (24/7 heart-rate data), SpO2 sensing, improved sleep staging, and more wellness content. Similar to the Whoop Band (but much cheaper), they added a subscription model for additional insights and access to content for $5.99/month. Luckily, existing users get a free lifetime subscription and $50 off the new device!
Levels Health vs Supersapiens: I’m going to have a detailed write up comparing these two glucose monitoring startups next week! I like a little about each companies philosophy, but let’s just say Supersapiens has an early lead by integrating it with the better product, the Abbott Libre Sense. Compared to the Freestyle Libre, the Libre Sense is much better as it stores more data without having to constantly hold your phone/tracker to your skin to “read” your blood sugar. Furthermore, Supersapiens has paired glucose data from the Libre Sense to Garmin devices, which is super helpful while racing!
