Hey everyone, I’ll be putting out a weekly series to highlight some of the trainers, boxers, runners, and other members of our community. This week’s feature is on none other than my mom!
My mom is the founder and owner of Downtown Yoga Shala in San Jose, CA. She’s also one of the major influences in my life – we regularly like to geek out over health and wellness and share podcasts, books, training plans, etc.!Â
In this interview, my mom and I discuss:
-Our shared interest of podcasts, Mark Sisson, Zone Training, my status wearing a CGM (continuous glucose monitor), Self-Quantification
-My mom’s status tracking with an Oura – what she looks for in her sleep and HRV (heart rate variability) metrics. The idea of “overtraining” vs “under-recovering”
-The Oura Ring’s “Take A Moment” Feature and My mom’s breathwork practice
-How today’s modern environment over-activates the sympathetic nervous system
-Transcendental Meditation, the book “Strength in Stillness – The Power of Transcendental Meditation” by Bob Roth, other forms of meditation
-Nasal Breathing, Mouth Taping, the book “Oxygen Advantage” by Patrick McKeown
-What her most memorable workshop was (and where she learned TM)!
Next week’s feature: Coach Sara Koshfam, Dreamland Boxing
