In 2019, I ran 3 marathons and my first ultramarathon. I cut down my training hours/miles heavily this year to keep other life priorities in check. I’m not the greatest athlete by any means, I just enjoy the challenge of pushing my limits to see what I’m capable of.
I’ve found that marathon racing itself, is a marathon and not a sprint. I’m no longer looking at each race with a PR-or-bust mindset, I just look forward to each challenge with the broader perspective of how running fits into my life at that given moment. So rather than a 2020 goal, it’s more like a 2020’s decade long goal – to be able to stay healthy and run a marathon each year, while staying well rounded and meeting other fitness and (primarily) health goals along the way.
